Remember when I talked about linking your game to another game using Portals in part 2 of World Editing?
And how I promised to go into more detail on that?
Well, the time has finally come for me to do so! Today, let’s talk about Portals!
As I said earlier, Adventure Box offers you the ability to connect your game with another game. And it doesn’t have to just be between worlds you’ve created or even worlds with the same genre, either: You can link your game world to any published world!
Do note, though, that the world has to be published (As in, public and accessible to other Players) for the linking to be possible. Otherwise, the game world you want to link to can’t be found.
However! The link won’t disappear if you unpublish a game. So if you want to create a portal to a world you’ve made that you want to keep hidden for the purpose of acting as, say, a bonus level, you can first publish the bonus level world, create a portal to it from your other game world and then unpublish the bonus world again. Problem solved!
I’ll talk a bit more about publishing worlds in another blogpost. (Wow, does that sound familiar…?)
When you place out a portal, you’ll be prompted to search for the world you want to create a link to. It’s easy – Just type in the name of the world in the Search field at the top, and when you find the world you want to link your game to, simply click on the world’s thumbnail.
And there! A world link has been established, easy as that!
And if you change your mind? Just click the world thumbnail again to remove the link.
You can have up to 5 portals in a world, and you get experience points for placing them out.
And that’s all there is to it when it comes to Portals! Next time, we’ll talk about creating Quests and Event Triggers!
